New bf (8 weeks) said no Christmas presents then gave me a wrapped box from high $ jewelry store?

He said no presents – should I decline to accept the gift? I am afraid he was too extravagant. Or if I don’t decline the gift then I want to get him something nice but I don’t know him very well. He has a huge HO train set up in his basesment. Takes up a whole 8×10 room. He has a really nice telescope. He races RC boats. He has about 1,000 DVDs. I don’t mind spending the money (up to $100.00) but I have no idea what to get him. I don’t want to go overboard but I don’t want to buy him some cheap trinket either. He doesn’t wear watches or jewelry. Already said “Don’t get me any clothes”. HELP! Any suggestions on what I should get this really wonderful guy for Christmas?

How do I protect the Christmas light plugs from the sprinkler system?

We live in a warm climate. This weekend we put up our Christmas lights and yard decorations; however, the sprinkler system keeps tripping the outlets. I’ve heard if I wrap the plugs with plastic it will protect them from the water, but won’t they still sweat? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The plugs are lying on the ground. The outlets are not the problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

51P5AR1PQPL. SL160 Advent and Christmas Wisdom from Henri J.M. Nouwen: Daily Scripture and Prayers together with Nouwens Own Words

Product Description
The inspiring words of Henri J. M. Nouwen guide the faithful on a spiritual journey through the Advent and Christmas season in this book of waiting, hope, anticipation, and celebration. Each day of the Advent season (28 in all, to accommodate the varying number of days in the season) and each day of Christmas (12 in all, ending with Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan by John the Baptist) contain a pertinent excerpt from the writings of Father Nouwen, a related quotation from Scripture, a prayer for the day, and a suggested activity that offers a concrete response to mark the season.

Advent and Christmas Wisdom is indeed an easy-to-use, daily program to celebrate the momentous arrival of the Christ Child and the joyous news of our salvation. It is also an ideal book for the individual seeking active participation in the season and a renewal of faith for the start of the liturgical year.

Learning Life Lessons From a Christmas Carol

One of the most beloved stories told at Christmastime is A Christmas Carol which was written by Charles Dickens in the 1800. It tells the tale of a man who has only been concerned about money and never about cultivating friendships with the people in his life. The night before Christmas, Ebenezer Scrooge, is visited by 3 ghosts who show him different scenes in his past, present and future. One of the scenes is his funeral in which no one even attended it. After being visited by these ghosts and watching all of these scenes from his life he is awoken with a new view on life and realizes the importance of everyone in his life.

As Christmas gets closer and closer pull out the story, or the DVD or even go catch the play. It will remind you and your family of how you can all benefit from the lessons taught in this tale. There are tons of different adaptations of this movie and you can find one that anyone will enjoy. Kids will like the Disney or the Muppet Version as opposed to the black and white classic which adults might enjoy better.

While we might not all be as rich as Scrooge, this story is a great reminder to both kids and adults about what is important in our lives. Getting caught up in the busyness in life makes us forget about what is most important. When bills continuously build up it seems that we should be focusing all of our extra time and energy on earning money and not helping others or growing our relationships. This story also reminds us of how much easier life can be when we have the help of our friends and family to help us along the way and we don’t have to be visited by ghosts to learn all of this.
