What should Christmas be renamed to, to include all the atheists who celebrate it?

XMas? Wouldn’t that be the celebration of birth (which is really a birth-day)? How about Family Day? Christmas is usually celebrated with families. But how about the people with no family? Are they not allowed to celebrate it then?
How about Santa Day?

Christmas was ripped off from the pagans in the first place, so who cares?

I am an atheist and I am perfectly fine with keeping it Christmas. Yes, it may be more PC at work to wish someone a happy holidays, but for what it should be called, I think Christmas is the best term. Personally, I don’t see how the term is offensive, and my lack of a belief in a God has not really changed the way I celebrate the holiday. We put up the Manger scene every year, set up a tree, spend time with family, listen to Christmas music (secular and religious) and share presents. We do not celebrate any different (short of going to church) than we had while Christians. So Merry Christmas, and if you are offended, Happy Holiday (which means Holy Day, I don’t see how this is much different).

Why should we rename it?
I _AM_ atheist, and don’t give a flying fart how you call it.

All this will achieve is lessen the western culture to promote mohammedanism.

Servant of God

how about we leave it as is, if atheists don’t want to honor the birth of Christ that’s their problem and it doesn’t mean YOU get to ruin it for the rest of us

I simply drop the T…and spell it like people say it…Chris Mas…Chrismas.

Nobody says Merry Christ Mas.

Of course this would mean everyone named Chris would think they should be worshiped since the holiday is now named after them.

I’m atheist and I celebrate Christmas. Obviously not for religious reasons. But I don’t mind it being called Christmas… The name is never going to change.

Anti-Christmas to you. Anti-Christmas to you. Anti-
Christmas to the Atheists. Anti-Christmas to you.

No one wants to rename Christmas. Your premise is just absurd.

What we want is you to respect that we don’t celebrate Christmas the same way many other groups don’t celebrate Christmas. When you insist on using that term in public, it is incredibly self-centred and presumptuous. We don’t want government promoting Christmas or putting up religious greetings or symbols. Is that so much to ask?

If you think it is too much to ask, why must you insist on using the term?

Stop and Think

Xmas is a greek spelling of Christmas. You should probably stop doing that, it might make a christian point and laugh. Those that want to call it something else, do and often use Jul (Yule) or prefer to simply celebrate Solstice on Dec 22nd (which is more scientific as far as the reason for the season).

Changing the name as a hope that you can change it for society,or in hopes that the new name will go mainstream is pointless. Christians are the majority. The majority will keep its name “Christmas”.

Instead of wanting to change the name, try to realize that it really means nothing and is just the name the day goes by. We use pointless “god” names for things all the time. When we think of planets, we know they are named after gods but it doesn’t mean anything to us. When you think of Friday or Thursday… you don’t think of the gods those days are named after every time you want to refer to that day. Same with months, numerous ones are named after a god… they’re just words.

I have no problem with “Christmas” because unlike Christians, I know Jesus was not born December 25th. I know their customs are layered on top of Pagan ones. I know that their manger story is quite questionable, and riddled with inaccuracies that even they squabble over when they think the Atheists aren’t watching.

< >

Christmas shouldn’t be renamed.
Atheists freely choose to exclude themselves from Christmas by freely choosing to be atheists.

< >

The term “xmas” already exists, and it means the same thing as “Christmas”.

< >

“Family day” EXCLUDES Jesus and, by extension, all Christians. I thought your goal was the be INCLUSIVE.

< celebrate it then?>>

The answer is OBVIOUS – of course people without family can celebrate Christmas too.’

< >

That sucks too.
Again, the emphasis of the day is Jesus Christ. That’s why it’s called CHRISTmas!
