PENTAX Kx, 720p DSLR, HD VIDEO !

People have been asking for some HD clips, taken with the new, Pentax Kx. Here is a little pre-Christmas, clip that I captured this morning. I increased the saturation a bit, because of the very gray day, and cloud covered sky.

@17DM Yea, I know what you mean, although I’ve since learned that taking the “SR” (Shake Reduction) off, seems to correct the problem. I think that what we’re hearing is the image sensor moving, with the shake reduction turned on. I’ve opted to record with a different audio recorder all together, and not use the built in mic, since making this video. Good point though, 17DM.

I love your face. Or, should I say, your facial expressions. They really are epic. Nice camera! We need more face close ups! Haha. =)

@gsmark455 Congratulations on your new old lens :)

I have one M42 lens and one T-mount lens. Both work very well. The T-mount have its own adapter so it works like a normal K-mount lens cause you screw the adapter on the lens then mount it on the camera like a normal lens.

The M42 is different. You can screw on the adapter before and mount it normally, but you can’t remove it like that, you have to screw it off then take off the adapter, so it takes a little more time, but it’s OK.

@ArcticExposure I just got my first additional lens today in the mail. Found it for $25 on eBay. It’s an autofocus Tamron 28-80 f.4-5.6. It feels and shoots better than the kit lens, and its got a nice heavy build to it. Have you ever tried using any screw mount lenses on your camera? I was kinda afraid to get one, and the lens I got has a K mount, and an aperture ring on it. I’ve been leaving the ap. on auto, and it works perfectly. Very psyched.

@ArcticExposure
Ah. I didn’t realize that. Thought I read something different about the Prime II. Thanks for the info.

@gsmark455 The K-7 has a different sensor. 15 megapixels almost, and it’s a new version of the on in K20D. The K-x sensor is much better though at high ISO. Much less noise, more than a stop difference between them.

@ShowCaseProductions Not more than other cameras. I’ve been using mine extensively since I bought it in December 09. It sounds to me like they have been using it with the image stabilization on, which is a bad thing. Stabilization should be off for tripod use (unless it’s standing on moving ground of course).

It’s a great camera, if you get it, I’m sure you’ll be happy with it. And be sure to look into old cheap lenses, they’re great and fun to use and learn with :)

@TheBunnyFilms
Yes, i realize I look awkward. I usually try to stay on the other side of the lens.

@ShowCaseProductions
No I haven’t noticed any problem like that. I’ve owned about ten or twelve different SLRs over the last 25 years, (mostly Canons). I have found this Pentax to be the best one so far, and I always thought I would stay with canon. The blur you mention might be from not using a high enough shutter speed. This K-x can shoot at very high shutter speeds and the iso can go up as high as 12800. The image sensor in this model is brand new and the same one they use in the K-7

some reviews say that this camera has a blur problem while taking photos without using a tripod. do you agree??btw i’m a 14 year old that’s interested in photography and video

@booboorhymes The batteries are fine. In fact, if I use the Lithium ones, I get over a thousand exposures on them, using the flash occasionally. But the lithium batt. are very expensive at over $9 for a four pack. I pay the same money for a good set of rechargeable AA. Get a good brand like Duracell or Energizer. They last for 600 exposures for each charge. I like using the AA batt, cause its easy to carry an extra set with me. Camera takes nice pics. Lots of controls in the menu.

@C906070
Thanks for the coments. I see what you are saying about the homes not having fences or many trees. This is a very old neighborhood, and the houses were built about 90 years ago, i think. It is also a working class neighborhood, and the houses are built pretty close together. We do have some nicer areas close by. I’ll have to make another video to demonstrate. This was one of the first vids I did with the new camera, six months ago, just before Christmas.

Turn of SR when you use video. Then you won’t have the noise.
