I purchased this book here in October. It took a month to receive it. A few days before receiving it in the mail I had stopped at a local bookstore to see if they had a copy (I was desperate and needed patterns for this years stockings). I wasn’t that impressed, I’ve definitely seen better. Sure, there are a couple patterns that are nice but I don’t think it’s worth the $. So I returned the book. I’m glad I had a chance to look at it before it finally arrived.

I’m also surprised to see the promise of 2 day shipping. If you’re intending on getting this for some last minute Christmas knits, don’t count on it.

I like it! I’m knitting one of the stockings and plan to do more. I have also purchased a copy for a gift to my cousin…also a knitter!

The book has a nice variety of patterns for adults; there’s only one pattern for a children’s stocking, but it’s adorable. The patterns are clearly written and well-illustrated. They’re not written for a specific yarn, and the way they supply gauge information makes it easy to match the yarn of your choice to patterns; I found the yarn requirements to be very accurate.

If you find yourself wanting to knit different stockings to match the personalities of the people in your life, I recommend investing in this book, since it has something for everyone. The patterns range in difficulty from easy to quite challenging; I wouldn’t recommend any of them to beginners, but anybody with a little knitting experience under their belt should be able to follow all of them. (I’m not a sock knitter and had never done intarsia before knitting the Diamonds in the Rough Argyle Stocking, but with careful attention to the instructions, had no problem.)

The stockings shown in this book are just beautiful, HOWEVER, I found the directions on the first stocking I made to be somewhat confusing, especially regarding the total number of rows to be knitted before shaping. I consider myself an experienced knitter, but I had to write the directions on scrap paper to keep them straight. I hope the other stocking directions in this book are a little clearer, as I really look forward to trying another one.
